Yes. You do not need to arrive with a fully developed engineering drawing to begin a conversation with IDFS. Our design team can help transform sketches, existing parts, reference images, or early-stage concepts into accurate CAD models and manufacturable designs.

We also provide product development, research and development, reverse engineering, design validation, and Design for Manufacturability and Assembly optimization. These services can help identify potential issues, reduce unnecessary material or production costs, and create a clearer path from concept to finished product.

IDFS works with a broad range of materials, including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, plastics, composites, and engineering-grade resins. Our fabrication and welding capabilities include commonly used materials and alloys such as 6061 aluminum, 304 stainless steel, and 4130 steel.

The best material depends on the part’s intended use, required strength, environmental exposure, weight, appearance, and budget. Our team can review your application and help determine which material and manufacturing process are best suited for the project.

Yes. IDFS regularly supports prototypes, custom components, one-of-a-kind builds, replacement parts, fixtures, sculptures, entertainment props, specialty structures, and other projects that may not fit into a traditional high-volume manufacturing environment.

Yes. In addition to prototypes and one-off fabrication, IDFS offers short-run and repeat production services. We can manufacture repeatable components, brackets, base plates, gussets, templates, signage, subassemblies, component blanks, and other production parts.

Our CNC machining, plasma cutting, routing, robotic manufacturing, welding, and assembly capabilities help maintain consistency from one part to the next. We can also provide overflow production support when another manufacturer or internal production team needs additional capacity.

Yes. IDFS offers powder coating as a finishing option for applicable fabricated metal parts, components, frames, enclosures, brackets, assemblies, and custom projects. Powder coating creates a clean, durable finish and is available in a variety of colors and textures depending on the project’s requirements.

Our team can help determine whether powder coating is appropriate based on the material, part dimensions, intended environment, desired appearance, and performance requirements. By coordinating fabrication, assembly, and finishing, IDFS can provide a more complete, production-ready solution.

Providing as much information as possible helps IDFS prepare a faster and more accurate quote. Helpful details include:

Turnaround time depends on the project’s complexity, material availability, quantity, required tolerances, finishing needs, and current production schedule. A straightforward cut part or small repair may require less time than a new product design, complex welded assembly, large specialty build, or multi-stage production project.

IDFS is structured to provide responsive communication, efficient quoting, and fast turnaround whenever possible. Once the project has been reviewed, our team will provide a clearer production timeline and communicate with you if requirements or scheduling conditions change.

Yes. IDFS provides welding repairs, structural reinforcements, equipment repairs, trailer repairs, gate repairs, machinery repairs, and other custom repair solutions. Our team can evaluate damaged or worn components and determine whether the best solution is to repair, reinforce, modify, or replace the part.

When original drawings are unavailable, reverse engineering may be used to measure and recreate an existing component. This can be especially helpful for discontinued parts, older machinery, custom equipment, or components that are difficult to purchase through the original manufacturer.

IDFS works with clients across aerospace and defense, industrial manufacturing, automotive, film and entertainment, commercial, and consumer markets. CNC machining and metal fabrication are both used to manufacture custom parts, but they involve different processes. CNC machining typically removes material from a solid block, plate, or piece of stock to create a precise finished component. It is commonly used when a project requires detailed geometry, tight tolerances, repeatability, or a specific surface finish.

Metal fabrication involves cutting, bending, forming, welding, and assembling materials to create a finished part or structure. Fabrication is often used for frames, brackets, enclosures, platforms, equipment components, and larger welded assemblies.

Some projects require only one of these services, while others combine CNC cutting or machining with welding, assembly, and finishing.

Reverse engineering is the process of studying and measuring an existing part or product to recreate its design. The original component may be measured, scanned, photographed, or evaluated to produce an accurate CAD model and manufacturing plan.

This service can be especially useful when a part is discontinued, damaged, difficult to source, or no longer supported by the original manufacturer. Reverse engineering can also be used to reproduce legacy components, improve an existing design, modify a part for a new application, or create replacement components for older equipment and machinery.
